This secret, word-of-mouth, summertime Parisian tradition of 10,000 guests, all in white, bringing their own tables and elaborate champagne picnics to two undisclosed locations (this June they were outside Notre Dame and in the courtyard of the Louvre) to spend a seemingly impromptu evening of fine dining and dancing (often to live music) is coming to our fair city this August 25th. For the first time, New York will have its own Diner en Blanc, wherein a thousand people — half invited, half drawn from an online waiting list (newyork.dinerenblanc.info) — will participate in this refined feast, at an as-yet undisclosed location in Manhattan. But, unlike our French counterparts, no champagne will be served.
